“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
To believe, to act, to speak, to write, to join, to disagree and to appeal to a system of self government; bedrock principles of freedom integral to the private sphere of life in liberty. A poverty of one affects all others.
A vigorous and virtue driven journalism is as necessary a compliment to a free people as is their knowledge and appreciation for the rights inherent to their human dignity, Creator endowed and unalienable, and is a sure fruit of their faithful exercise.
Wherever journalism has disappeared, become stale or lukewarm, merely profit driven, or fallen into political or regional factionalism & propaganda, the clear remedy is the institution that stands firm in enterprising journalistic integrity. And as we continue to progress through a technological revolution, we require now, as ever, a faithful adaptation of enduring journalistic principles to new tools & methods appropriate to the times.
The center of study and practice of Enhanced Investigative Journalism (EIJ) acts to study problems of the free exercise of the power of the press inherent and integral to the private sphere of life, enhanced by the latest technologies and methods joined to a multidisciplinary approach to create a novel capability, applied to problems of particular concern to the betterment and preservation of the peace and dignity of the commonwealth.
